This project came to us through a General Contractor we work w/ frequently. Our Client is a very interesting man + has a deep interest in architecture. His request: 'design me a home inspired by Paris.. but more contemporary.' The commission came w/ a round trip ticket to study up across the Atlantic, so challenge accepted! The Concept became to create a classical grand formal entry, then gradually dissolve the style to more contemporary as occupants moved into the living spaces.
The transition concludes w/ the open Living Room + it's modern fireplace -the most modern detail in the home. The Living Room is designed as an indoor-outdoor room w/ two retractable door systems. This is a common feature of many of our Southern California projects. Note the cool minimalist shower trough drain w/ book-matched marble. As common in Paris, we added strong axial connections between spaces. We kept the color scheme in gray-scale so the french ornamental moldings would be subtle. Oh yeah, there's a secret door to the Tasting Room. The project is topped off w/ a balcony of the Master Bedroom on-axis w/ the pool.
We love working with clients that appreciate great design + modern architecture. If that sounds like you, let’s talk.
